Khaba Fort is a cursed village of Paliwal Brahmins, who abandoned the place 200 years ago due to unknown reasons. The crumbling structure of the fort still houses the ruins of some 80 families who lived here. The Khaba Fort dates back to the 13th century AD and was once an important part of the Kuladhara village, once inhabited by the Paliwal Brahmins.Once, Khaba Fort was Sarai Fort (the fortress at the forefront). Traders who entered Rajasthan through the Silk Route trade stayed inside this fort for one night. He was allowed to proceed for business only after paying taxes. The remnants of the village seem like a well-planned settlement with a temple surrounded by many houses. Neither of the ruins houses a roof. Khaba Fort still has an abandoned feel with very little human activity in the area. The renovation work is currently underway in the fort. There is a small museum which displays ancient artefacts. The view of the green ground from the top of the fort is spectacular. This makes for great photography opportunities. The grandeur of the fort is enhanced by the presence of many peacocks roaming around the fort. Hundreds of peacocks and peahens roam the site for daily cereals and witness the morning like never before. Visit at sunrise or sunset, to watch the marvelous sandstone architecture and surrounding desert that dramatically change appearance.
